COMMON MODALITIES OF TREATMENT

The following therapeutic modalities may utilized during the course of individual psychotherapy to meet your unique needs

PSYCHODYNAMIC PSYCHOTHERAPY

Psychodynamic Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on exploring the underlying dynamics of a person’s emotional and psychological life. It helps to uncover the unconscious thoughts, feelings, and motivations that may be causing psychological distress. This type of therapy can help to gain insight, increase self-awareness, and improve relationships.

DIALETICAL BEHAVIOR THERAPY (DBT)

DBT works closely with patients to help them navigate the complexities of their emotions and behaviors. This one-on-one therapy focuses on teaching and reinforcing skills in mindfulness, emotion regulation, crisis management, and relationship effectiveness. The practice’s approach is grounded in DBT's core principles, which emphasize both acceptance and change. Through individualized sessions, patients learn to manage their emotions more effectively, improve interpersonal relationships, and develop coping strategies to handle distressing situations.

MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING (MI)

MI is an evidenced based treatment - conversationally based - that helps individuals identify their own ambivalence to change and provides space to express desire for change; plan for change, and ultimately strengthen confidence to change.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOR THERAPY (CBT)

A highly effective form of psychotherapy -CBT- focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful beliefs and behaviors in order to improve emotional and psychological well-being. CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts and beliefs affect our behavior and emotions, so by changing our thoughts and beliefs, we can improve our mental health.

MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness-Based Treatment offers a holistic approach to mental health and well-being. It focuses on developing an awareness of the present moment and using it to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. By using techniques such as meditation and breathing exercises, clients can learn to better manage their emotions and become more resilient to life's challenges.

GRIEF COUNSELING

Specifically designed to help people process and cope with loss, grief counseling can help you understand your grief and find ways to move forward while honoring the memory of whom you’ve lost. This type of focused counseling helps you stay present, manage overwhelming emotions, and find moments of peace during the grieving process.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalytic techniques attempt to help patients gain insight into how their past experiences inform their present behavior utilizing techniques such as dream analysis, free-flowing conversations, transference analysis, interpretation, and free association.

CRISIS INTERVENTION

In times of mental health crisis, worsening symptoms, thoughts to harm self or others, crisis intervention might be warranted and can include a referral to a Mobile Crisis Team or 911 for more immediate assessment.

SUPPORTIVE PSYCHOTHERAPY

A type of therapy that enables individuals to feel more supported and increase their confidence while managing distressing symptoms in the present moment.
